Zone 3 (of a person in Melbourne, Australia, and elsewhere) Unfashionably suburban, living in the outer fare zone of the city's transport system. Example: 'She's a bit too Zone 3 for my taste.'
zone of tolerance A defined area where prostitution is tolerated by the authorities. In 2004 the UK gave local authorities discretion to create such zones, which already exist in the Netherlands. Prostitutes themselves are divided as to whether zones of tolerance make working safer or less safe.
